Common Problems

Below is a list of common problems encountered with Textease Studio CT.

Installation

P. On installation you receive the message ‘error 1609 users/administrator is not a valid user or group’

S. Download and install version 6.6 for free from here which will correct the problem.

P. When installing Studio CT to a network drive the installer appears to hang

S. This is correct behaviour; the installer is searching for a current installation that may reside on the server. It may take a few minutes to complete but if you leave it the installer will proceed.

P. At the end of the installation I am asked to register but the page it navigates me to doesn’t exist

S. There is now no requirement for you to register so the link has been removed; all you need to do is just click finish. Please note that registering is different to licensing, registration was optionally but you still need to license Textease via Help >> Upgrade.

P. When installing on Windows Vista or Windows 7no program shortcuts are found on the desktop

S. Download and install version 6.6 for free from here which will correct the problem.

Textease Studio CT

P. I cannot save, print or access any of the toolbars in Studio CT

S. It’s most likely that after Studio CT was installed the serial/key was never entered into the program and therefore is now in an expired state after its 30 day trial period. To activate the parts of the Studio CT that you have purchased open Studio CT, click Help >> Upgrade and enter your serial/key as well as the establish name at the bottom.

P. I have entered my serial/key but when I close/open Textease or logoff, the next time I use Textease it is unlicensed again

S. You will need to enter the serial/key in Textease whilst logged on as a user that has write access to the C drive (usually an Administrator), Textease writes two files to disk when you enter the serial/key and entering this as a limited user will not write these files.

P. When using the speech engine you receive an error ‘Failed to load speech, install speech from CD or www.softease.com’

S. Download and install version 6.6 for free from here which will correct the problem.

P. I cannot find 'Looks' in the Tools menu after upgrading to version 6.5 of Studio CT.

S. In version 6.5 and above the 'Looks' dialog has been renamed to 'Page Setup' and is now located in the file menu.

P. When opening the resource bank you receive a script error

S. Browse to Tools >> Options >> Resource Bank and uncheck the Internet checkbox. If you open the resource bank now you should not receive an error.

Textease Database CT

P. When multiple users are connected to a multi user database you receive a message ‘field’ has been changed to ‘****’ Would you like the overwrite these changes?

S. This is happening because a user has modified a field which another user has modified at the same time. The first user’s modification has to update for all users connected to the database, this can take a few seconds and in that time if a second user modifies the same field then the database prompts the user as to whether they want to overwrite the other user’s modification.

To prevent this from happening upgrade to version 6.6, where record locking has been implemented. This will lock any record that a user is viewing and restrict modification of the record to that user (until that user browses away from that record thus 'releasing it').

Textease Spreadsheet CT

P. Cells that I have applied a background colour to don't print.

S. Download and install version 6.6 for free from here which will correct the problem.

Textease Movies CT

P. When I open Textease Movies I receive the message ‘No Textease Studio CT serial number and key could be found. Textease Movies will run in Restricted Mode’

S. Enter either the Textease Studio CT or Textease Movies CT serial / key into the Help >> Upgrade section of Textease Studio CT. This will either license Studio CT (which includes Movies) or just Movies itself.

If entering either of these does not unlock Movies then please call support.

Textease Timeline

P. When I edit an event it jumps off the timeline

S. Download and install version 6.6 for free from here which will correct the problem.
